The recently initiated PM Surya Ghar Yojana, also recognized as the Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana or Free Electricity Scheme, is a fresh endeavor by the Indian government. Its objective is to furnish free electricity to 1 crore households by installing solar power systems on their rooftops.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced the scheme, alternatively named PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, providing complimentary electricity of up to 300 units every month. PM Modi shared insights about this initiative on the social media platform 'X', presenting a new gift to the countrymen.

How to apply PM Surya Ghar Yojana:
To apply for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, please carefully follow the instructions provided below:
1. Visit the official website at "pmsuryaghar.gov.in."
2. Initiate the registration process.
3. Select your state and the respective electricity distribution company.
4. Enter your electricity customer number, email ID, and mobile number.
5. Log in using your mobile number or customer number and proceed to apply for rooftop solar installation.
6. Upon approval, engage registered vendors within your DISCOM for plan installation.
7. Submit plant information and apply for a net meter.
8. Once net meters are installed and DISCOM inspection is complete, generate your commissioning certificate through the portal.
9. Following the commissioning report, provide your bank account details along with a canceled cheque on the portal.
10. Your subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days.
Eligibility For PM Surya Ghar Yojana:
To avail the free electricity facility under PM Surya Ghar Yojana 2024, you must meet certain eligibility criteria. Please be aware that only individuals classified as permanent residents of India are eligible to apply for this scheme. Additionally, the annual income of the applicant's family should not exceed Rs 150,000.
- Indian Citizenship: Accessible to all citizens of India.
- Income Range: Expected to cater to individuals with an annual income ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹1.50 lakh (subject to modification).
- Government Employment/Taxpayer Exemption: Ineligibility for individuals holding government jobs or filing income tax returns.
